How to: Take Care of Your Skin in Humid Weather

Summer on the eastern seaboard is certainly beautiful, however, it can also be unforgivingly humid.

A little humidity can be a good thing for your skin, but when the water in the air tops 50 percent or more, it can leave your complexion shiny, oily, and lead to breakouts (yikes).

The good news... There's simple steps you can take to combat high humidity, keeping your skin clean and fresh (Scroll down).

Step 1 - Exfoliate

Lite exfoliation is great any time of year and in any climate, but when humidity rises, it becomes crucial in maintaining a clear complexion and allowing your skin to breath.

Using a scrub or soap bar with exfoliating properties will help remove dry skin, unclog pores, and leave your skin feeling fresh (see our Salt Scrub and Charcoal Soap Bar)

Step 2 - Moisturize (but lightly)

The second step is then to re-moisturize your skin, as you'll be expending and losing lots of water through sweat.

The key here is to avoid heavy creams that can clog pores. A light lotion like our Original, or Bayberry & Sea Fennel lotions (avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil, kelp) will help seal in moisture and hydrate while you sleep.

Light lotions can also be used as facial moisturizers, but try to find a lotion that is free from artificial preservatives, dyes, and scents, as they can cause irritation, redness, and actually promote breakouts!
